Abstract

Dry-type transformers can be manufactured using vacuum cast coil (VCC) or filament winding (FW) process. Coils manufactured using the filament winding technology, in which reinforcing mineral fibers are impregnated with an organic resin, exhibit a high mechanical robustness. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the influence of different manufacturing process parameters on the partial discharge (PD) behavior of a composite insulation material intended for the use on dry type transformers. In addition, it is also an intention of this study to present a contribution to the possibilities and challenges when analyzing the partial discharge behavior of composite materials for general purpose. A method for the production and testing of the necessary specimens, which limit the investigations of this type due to the high costs, is discussed.
