High Voltage Apparatus I

No. Course Catalog: 35804 & 35806

Students are introduced to the processes in high voltage switches and are able to evaluate critical conditions for switches. They have knowledge about requirements in gas-insulated high-voltage systems, transformers, cables, capacitors, bushings. Furthermore, they can determine the performance limits of high-voltage cables and acquire knowledge about the function and design of high-voltage arresters.

Description

Students gain knowledge of:

  • Essential processes involved in switching on and off high-voltage circuit breakers
  • The most important design parameters for typical power supply components (gas-insulated switchgear, transformers, cables, capacitors, bushings)
  • Principles of thermal design of high and extra high voltage cables
  • Characteristics and operation of high voltage arresters
