  • 1961 to 1967 study of electrical engineering (electrical machines and drives) at the TU Dresden
  • 1967 to 1987 scientific assistant and senior assistant (1982) at the Institute for Electrical Power Systems at the TU Dresden. 1972 doctorate, 1981 habilitation (Dr. sc. techn.)
  • 1987 university lecturer for electrical power supply at the TH Leipzig (THL), 1990 director of the newly founded Institute for Electrical Power Engineering at the THL. 1991 Professorship of new law by the Saxon Minister of State for Science and Art. 1992 Founding Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK, formerly THL)
  • 1992 to 2007 holder of the professorship of Electrical Power Supply at the University of Hannover. Until 1993, continuation of the activity as founding dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the HTWK Leipzig as well as lectures and examinations in electrical power supply at the University of Rostock (1993 to 1997)

  • Computer simulation of the stationary and non-stationary operating behavior of electrical energy systems
  • Superconducting equipment and other new components in power supply
  • Network expansion and network operation
