Abstract

In order to develop a new method for the detection and Iocalization of faults in long cable systems, it would be beneficial to develop a numerical model for a cable in order to simulate the possible fault scenarios. In this regard, a simulation model using MATLAB / SIMULINK is established. This model provides the response and behavior of a cable system to sweep frequency signals. It is programmed for a broad range of cable parameters. To verify the simulation model, the results are compared to those experimentally measured results on a real cable. The emerging deviations in FDA response are attributed to the corresponding fault mode.
