Dielectric Behavior of Silicone and Ester Fluids for Use in Distribution Transformers

Abstract

The paper deals with the dielectric behavior of two insulating fluids which appear to be particularily suitable for use in distribution transformers. After a short description of the insulating fluids, the influence of aging on the breakdown and dissipation factor is determined. Furthermore, a comparison of the breakdown and aging behavior of fluid-paper composite dielectrics is made. Finally, the influence of partial discharge pre-stressing on the breakdown of the fluid-paper composite dielectric is shown.
