Abstract

In this paper, a new digital calibrator for partial discharge (PD) measurements is presented. This generator works with integrated current pulses to impress well specified charges. Thus, in difference to conventional calibrators used until now, the generated calibration pulses show only minimal dependencies both from the interior electronic realization of the calibrator as well as from the measuring object. Because of the digital storage, the pulse shapes are adaptable to nearly every measuring system. A comparison of real PD pulses injected in a transformer coil with the pulse shapes of both the new calibrator and of conventional generators injected in the same coil shows, that the signals from the new generator are much more similar to the real PD pulses. Thus, with the new generator pulses with nearly any shape and charge adjustable in wide range can be injected in high voltage devices.
