Abstract

This paper reports about experimental investigations dealing with the influence of ageing processes on the dielectric dissipation factor, the volume resistivity, and the PDIV of carbonized mineral based transformer oil. The oil was carbonized by stressing it with defined numbers of lightning impulses of a known energy and was then subjected for a period of 1000 hours to an accelerated ageing with metallic catalysts at 20 and 90 °C in the presence of oxygen. The analysis of the dielectric properties reveals that an ageing of carbonized oil samples leads to a faster and more intensive degradation of the fluid compared to uncarbonized oil.
